I can speak in the name of...No, I will not shut up. I can speak in the name of many young or less young soldiers of my family, who "gave their life" for freedom , during WWI and II.
The one who was 23, and two of my great aunts had to recognize his body, what they could do by recognizing his shoes only.
The one who was 22 and has been taken to a camp where he never came back from, because he attended to a meeting of Resistants, just by curiosity, he was not a hero at all, as my mother used to say about her young cousin. When the Germans came to take him, they shot through his house's door, and my great uncle has been kileed. So this great aunt lost at the same time her husband and her only son. Later, she got a medal and military honors for her hero son. Great solace.
And dont tell me there are true and false heroes.
Let me be cynical . I think there is no just war ( yes, I know, heil Hitler etc) I will never admire neither been moved by these ceremonies that are just a lure.
GenevieveAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18171692.post-1153787148601388942006-07-24T20:25:00.000-04:002006-07-24T20:25:00.000-04:00I love your piece, I can feel the beauty of the ce...I love your piece, I can feel the beauty of the ceremony. Being the conformist that I am, I believe these ceremonies are less of an effort to cover up the horrors of war - those are well documented in history - but rather the honor "a gateful nation" pays for the gift of support and love given by a soldier/sailor who gave his/her life for an idea of democracy in a country called America.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18171692.post-1153768484758989012006-07-24T15:14:00.000-04:002006-07-24T15:14:00.000-04:00"Anonymous said...
