I think it's something a lot of different people, of different views, could talk about seriously. My culturally conservative streak leads me, for example, to feel that the state's interest in marriage is basically about the kids. Once marriage becomes primarily about psychic fulfillment for two consenting individuals, then I'm not sure what the government's business is, with it. Without a central focus on children, government is basically in the romance business, when it comes to marriage. Very compelling piece.william bolenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18171692.post-35868584769456231282013-04-01T08:58:19.496-04:002013-04-01T08:58:19.496-04:00Brilliant! I agree. If we did away with the the civil marriage (religions could do what they want), then everyone would be equal and there wouldn't be this necessity for gay people to yearn for it so much and the religions couldn't be against it.

Lovely idea.

Of course, it won't happen *sigh*Andyhttp://www.vandainmilan.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18171692.post-8843975553682635792013-03-28T12:39:56.952-04:002013-03-28T12:39:56.952-04:00Religious institutions are not under federal autho...Religious institutions are not under federal authority.Cecilio Moraleshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05283375962527765787noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18171692.post-74244496295919527082013-03-27T15:56:41.773-04:002013-03-27T15:56:41.773-04:00I have in the past, & was just discussing w/fa...I have in the past, & was just discussing w/family again: wouldn't it be easier for the federal government to acknowledge an equality between all unions and marriages under one legal civil license, & then allow couples to further "marry" in whatever way they want...or don't want? After all, all religious institutions are *under* federal authority.Anne Malcolmnoreply@blogger.com
